Is Groovy only required for Soap based applications? Currently, I want to learn Rest API, so is there any need to learn Groovy, or I can switch directly to Ready Api modules?

No Groovy is scripting language that is requireed for both soap as well as rest based API, in order to learn Automation. So you shoud follow the groovy modules first.
